The player controls Booker Dewitt throughout the game, fighting enemies and scavenging supplies, while the AI-controlled Elizabeth provides assistance. Elizabeth possesses the ability to manipulate "Tears" in the space-time continuum that ravage Columbia, and Booker and Elizabeth discover she is central to the city's dark secrets. Booker rescues Elizabeth and the two become involved in a class war between the nativist Founders that rule Columbia and the rebel Vox Populi representing the city's underclass. The game is set in the year 1912 and follows its protagonist, Booker DeWitt, who is sent to the airborne city of Columbia to retrieve a young woman held captive, named Elizabeth. The third installment in the BioShock series, Infinite was released worldwide for the Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and OS X platforms in 2013. My name is herrmann3 on discord.BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter video game developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games. Hit me up on discord and I’ll check in more frequently as I’m very interested in this decision and glad I saw it here. It’s not fair to have the two runs compared against each other. I would much rather see a new category and a majority of the runners would just move over to it.
E xs bioshock infinite mods#
I personally wouldn’t like to check back in on my run to see it’s ranking go to oblivion because mods were allowed into the same category.

I think a large majority of the community would really like to have the option to run with the mod but not have the other runs held up next to it. Now then, I think any external intervention with the game like mods should be their own category, but I don’t think that should be a bad thing. If I was able to get a more consistent hrh, and it doesn’t have to be first try every time, I would definitely consider coming back. It’s 20+ minutes into the game before you get the run breaking RNG. I have time to fit in runs of this game, but HRH grind killed the game for me because it’s such a low chance of spawning and it’s so far into the game before you can even start the grind. I enjoy playing some other games and keeping up on the tv/movies I wanna see. I enjoyed speedrunning the game, but I also enjoy being able to go out and enjoy time with others.
E xs bioshock infinite full#
I turn 26 this year, I work a full time job, working on moving in with the girlfriend later this year, and just over all building my adult life while trying to be social. This being said, let me give you my situation and my thoughts.
I really enjoyed speedrunning it, and although I never had an amazing run time, I think I’m currently sitting at 16th place. It's not worth it trying to force a rule change for if it's just going to end up in a stalemate with nothing happening.Įx-Bioshock Infinite runner here, so take it for what you will, but HRH grind is a big reason why I don’t run it anymore. I'd say if introducing HRH mod as a separate category is tolerated by most of the community, it's worth doing. People are likely going to hold onto their opinions, and the only way for something to change is by taking action. In the situation that the HRH mod becomes its own category, I think that for all intents and purposes it would simply become the main category for BSI.Īs I've come to learn from the situation with SMS, there is no right answer. It's also worth noting that true any% does not always have to be the 'main' category for a game. I feel like in this case whether the any% rules are changed or whether it's its own category, people will run it if there is a leaderboard. In regards to HRH specifically, it seems like a no-brainer to me that playing the game is better than not playing the game. The rules should always be evaluated in the context of the game itself.
However there is no reason that any 2 games should strive to have the same, or similar rules.
Some people are quick to point to other games that don't do such a thing and try to leverage that as an argument in favor of keeping things 'vanilla'. If the most fun way to run a game is by implementing a rule that only makes sense in the context of that game, then why not do it? I'm personally of the firm belief that a speedrun is not something that should be standardized. Some thing it should not be allowed in any form, others want it to be a seperate category, and finally there's a group who want to change the rules of the existing categories to allow for this. In this discussion the same viewpoints have arised. There has been a long ongoing discussion about changing the rules of the game to start timing after this intro, in order to cut down on the amount of downtime in the run.
I feel like this situation has a lot of parallels with the discussion around race file timing in Super Mario Sunshine.Īs a brief summary, the intro in Super Mario Sunshine is about 7 minutes long, and consists of mostly cutscenes and around 30s of gameplay.
